« Molecular and Cellular Interactions » joint research unit
The « Molecular and Cellular Interactions » joint research unit (JRU 6026) between the CNRS and the University of Rennes 1 originates from a pioneering JRU created in the 60’s by ultrastructural cytologists and located on the scientific campus of Rennes Beaulieu. Early cytologists were then joined by physiologists, biochemists and molecular biologists to study stress, reproduction and development. More recently, structural studies of large macromolecular complexes have been achieved by groups using cryo-electron microscopy and NMR as routine techniques.
Today, the JRU 6026 hosts 44 staff scientists, 35 technical and administrative assistants, and is a place of education for Master and PhD students (VAS). Ten research groups lead the activities of the JRU in various areas such as (i) regulation of gene expression and epigenetics, (ii) neurogenesis in different animal models, (iii) macromolecular complex assembly and dynamics, and (iv) adaptation to stress. In addition, the JRU participates to activities of the large federative structures IFR140, Biogenouest, and Canceropole Grand Ouest.
